Sabre Dance from "Khatchaturiana"  - an Armenian Folk Ballet with music by Aram Khatchaturian and choreographed by Richard Holden for State Street Ballet of Santa Barbara, CA. Performance: July 16, 1999 at Lobero Theater, Santa Barbara.
Dancer: Chauncey Parsons Hildestad. A native of Santa Barbara, Mr. Hildestad graduated from the Kirov Academy of Ballet, returning home to join State Street Ballet. With the Kirov, he danced principal roles in "Pakhita" and "Coppelia", and with State Street Ballet, principal roles in 'Markitanka", "Flower Festival" and "Flames of Paris". Mr. Hildestad was a finalist in the 6th New York International Ballet Competition and International Jackson Competition, Spring 2002. He is currently with the Colorado Ballet.

This dance is typical of the Kursk region of Northern Russia. It was originally choreographed in 1997 by Richard Holden for his Kalinka Russian Folk Dance group in Tucson, Arizona. The costumes here worn by the State Street Ballet dancers are from the Tucson group. In Tucson this dance is performed with the Arizona Balalaika Orchestra and the Sons of Orpheus Men's chorus.

Dancer: Sayat Asatryan. Born in Armenia, Mr. Asatryan trained in Russia at the Voronezh Ballet School and the St. Petersburg Ballet School. As a principal dancer, he toured with the Moscow Kremlin, Moscow State, Moscow Festival and The Bolshoi Ballet Companies. Mr. Asatryan has worked with noted choreographer Vladimir Vasliliev and danced leading roles in "Don Quixote", "Giselle", "Carmen", "Cinderella" and "Nutcracker".
Mr. Asatryan currently operates his own Agency for Performing Artists.
